Site Visits for
Florida’s Professional Development
System Evaluation Protocol
We are pleased to announce that this spring the Florida Department of
Education will begin implementing the new
Florida’s Professional
Development System Evaluation Protocol
and will begin with on-site
district reviews in the following five districts:
Broward March
25-27
Lake
April
8-10
Sumter
April 15-16
DeSoto April
22-23
Walton
April 29-30
In preparation for the on-site reviews we will conduct a training session
for selected Review Team Members, February 25-26 in Orlando. Review
Team Members for this first cycle of reviews have been selected and were
notified earlier this month. We appreciate the high level of response to our
solicitation of reviewers. Additional Review Team Members will be
identified this summer and a training session will be conducted prior to the
start of the Fall Cycle of reviews. Starting Fall 2003 we will conduct 12-
14 on-site districts reviews each year. Selected districts will be notified in
July 2003.

Additionally, we have formed a Technical Assistance Group (TAG), comprised of staff
developers to provide assistance to districts both prior to and after the on-site reviews are
completed. The TAG members include:

District requests for technical assistance will be coordinated through our Bureau.
We are in the process of developing online resources for staff developers concerning the
protocol, evaluation issues and showcasing best practices. In addition, we are working with
Florida Association of Staff Development in providing you with the latest information on the
Protocol and extending our learning in the area of evaluation. We look forward to our
continued work to provide teachers and principals with high quality professional
development programs.
