6A-14.004 Calendar.
     
    Each community college shall operate on a year-round calendar which meets the following criteria:
     
    (1) The calendar shall provide at least two hundred twenty (220) days of classroom instruction
    including examinations or at least two hundred ten (210) days of classroom instruction excluding
    examinations. Upon request by the board of trustees, exceptions may be approved by the State
    Board of Community Colleges for reasons of experimentation, innovation, research, energy
    conservation, or more efficient utilization of resources.
     
    (2) The calendar shall provide three (3) common entry periods so that the first day of classes falls
    within each of the following three (3) periods:
     
    (a) The period from the next to last Monday in August through August 31.
     
    (b) The period from January 3 through January 10.
     
    (c) The period from May 6 through May 13.
     
    (d) Effective August, 1985, the common entry periods shall be:
     
    1. The first three (3) weekdays after August 22.
     
    2. The first three (3) weekdays after January 4.
     
    3. The first three (3) weekdays after May 5.
     
    (e) Upon request by the board of trustees, exceptions may be approved by the executive
    director for reasons of health and safety to life and of natural disaster. Upon request by the
    board of trustees, exceptions may be approved by the State Board of Community Colleges
    for reasons of experimentation, innovation, research, energy conservation, or more efficient
    utilization of resources.
     
    (3) The calendar shall meet additional requirements in Rule 6A-10.019, FAC.
     
    (4) An official copy of the annual calendar adopted by each community college board of trustees for
    each unit operated by it shall be filed with the Department of Education as prescribed by the State
    Board of Community Colleges.
