The National Mentoring Center in cooperation with the Florida Mentoring Partnership and the
Florida Partners in Education is pleased to offer sixteen sessions on mentoring related topics at
the Florida Partners in Education Conference, February 16 - 18, 2003 in Orlando, Florida. The
conference is expected to draw over 500 participants from the areas of education, youth services,
and delinquency prevention.
 
Eight of the sessions on mentoring topics that we will present will be open to all conference
participants. The other eight mentoring sessions will form a Mentoring Institute that requires
attendees to pre-register.
 
The Mentoring Institute
is designed for individuals who coordinate adult-to-youth mentoring
programs. The Institute will be a separate track of workshops within the Florida Partners in
Education Conference. Participants in the Institute are required to attend all eight sessions. In
addition to receiving all conference materials, registrants for the Mentoring Institute may also
attend all conference general sessions and luncheons. Topics covered in the Mentoring Institute
will include the following:
 
Elements of Effective Practice
Recruitment
Screening
Mentor and Mentee Orientation
Making the Match
Supporting the Match and Mentor Retention
Training Exercises
Building Trust and Match Closure
 
The Mentoring Institute is limited to the first 40 registrants. A registration information

The other eight sessions that will be offered by the NMC at the conference include: National
Mentoring Research & Resources, Mentoring Elements of Effective Practice, Mentoring Models,
Building Strong School & Community Partnerships, School Based Mentoring, Parental
Involvement, and Partnering with Corporations.
