Excellent Teaching Program Funds (Salary
Bonus)
Please disregard DPE Memorandum 03-05, dated November 15, 2002, concerning
Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program Funds (Salary Bonus). It has been deleted
from the electronic file and is being replaced by this memorandum which includes
updated and corrected information regarding the salary bonus to be provided for each
National Board Certified Teacher.
Pursuant to Section 236.08106, Florida Statutes, which created the Florida Excellent
Teaching Program (ETP), renamed the Dale Hickam Excellent Teaching Program,
Section 1012.72, Florida Statutes, please be advised that funds for payment of
annual
salary bonuses
for National Board Certified Teachers will be forthcoming via electronic
funds transfer. The Excellent Teacher
salary bonus
for the
2002-2003
school year,
based on a calculation of ten percent (10%) of the statewide average 2001-2002
teacher’s salary, is
$3,927.50.
The district shall determine the appropriate
individual withholding for each National Board Certified Teacher, make the
deductions, and pay the remaining bonus to the teacher.

Effective July 1, 2002, the bonus is compensation for retirement as specified in
Section 121.021 (22)(a)6., Florida Statutes.
When 7.65 percent for the district share
of FICA, which is
$300.45
, and 5.76 percent for retirement, which is

added, the total amount to be forwarded to the district from the Department for each
qualified recipient is
$4,454.17
.
Beginning in early
December 2002 through January 2003,
district Excellent Teaching
Program contacts will submit to the Department of Education a salary bonus request for
each
new
and current National Board Certified Teacher (NBCT). Upon
receipt of the
requests
, a salary bonus will be processed for each NBCT and the funds electronically
transferred to the district for payment.
