National Board for Professional Teaching Standards Candidate
Subsidy
Program/Retake
Funds

The Federal government, through the

National Board for Professional Teaching Standards
(NBPTS)
Candidate Subsidy Program,
has awarded the State of Florida
$270,000.
This award
will be used to subsidize one or more retake exercises for
first-time

2001-2002

retake
candidates.
The cost of each retake exercise is $300. Retake subsidies will be determined by
lottery drawing. The requirements for participation, guidelines, and timelines, for the retake
subsidy are explained in this memorandum.

In mid November, all
2001-2002
NBPTS applicants will receive score report profiles indicating
the results of certification assessment. Successful achievement of National Board certification is
indicated by a total score of at least
2.75
for portfolio and written assessments. Each candidate
achieving a score of
2.75 or above
will become a National Board Certified Teacher and
will not

need to apply for a retake subsidy. Each candidate achieving a score of
less than 2.75
will
receive an NBPTS Retake Form with his/her score report and will be
eligible to retake one or
more exercises
. The Department of Education will notify all 2001-2002 eligible applicants of
the retake opportunity by the attached announcement which includes the
“Application for
Retake Subsidy Funds”
form.
