SUBJECT:
Correction to Provision 2 Guideline
This technical assistance note is a notification of changes due to an error in the newly issued
Provision 2 Guidance for the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs. On page 30
under the section “What is considered a statistically valid sample?,” in the fourth line after the
word “free,” the USDA has taken out the comma and the words "reduced price and paid."
The last bullet now reads: "The number of households that complete the survey must be
sufficiently large so that it can be asserted with 95 percent confidence that the true percentage of
students participating in, or who are enrolled in the school that have access to school meals, and
are eligible for free meals, is within plus or minus 2.5 percentage points of the point estimate
determined from the sample."
Additionally, there is a typographical error on page two in the Civil Rights Statement. In the first
sentence the word "discrimination" has been removed and “discriminating” inserted in its place.
These changes have been made to the guidance on the website. The Provision 2 Guidance with
corrections may be viewed on the USDA website at www.fns.usda.gov.
