2009-2010 MCKINNEY-VENTO AMERICAN RECOVERY AND REINVESTMENT
(ARRA) GRANT FOR THE EDUCATION OF HOMELESS STUDENTS AND YOUTH:
REQUEST FOR APPLICATIONS
We are pleased to inform you that the Department of Education will be awarding $3,124,358 to eligible school
districts for 2009-2010 McKinney-Vento ARRA grant for the education of homeless children and youth. This
grant is non-competitive and is available on a formula basis to school districts that have identified at least one
homeless stud
ent in 2007-2008 or 2008-2009. Districts are encouraged to submit the grant by June 30, 2009, in
order to be eligible for funds beginning July 1, 2009.
The grant funds must be used to facilitate the enrollment, attendance, and academic success of homeless children
and youth. Grant funds should be used to expand or improve services provided to homeless students as part of a
school’s regular academic program, but not to replace such services already provided by the district. The project
should supplement the district’s funding to ensure that homeless students have equal access to the same free,
appropriate public education, including preschool education, as provided to other students, and to provide other
supportive services that meet the specific needs of such students. Attached is the Preliminary Allocation Table as
well as the Request for Application, which provides detailed information.
