    10. for the 2009-2010 Adoption Year
    11. The Florida Department of Education is planning for the 2009-2010 instructional materials adoption. I am pleased to announce the acceptance of nominations for membership on the State Instructional Materials Committees. Our review process will ensure that adopted instructional materials are aligned to Florida’s Next Generation Sunshine State Standards and to Florida's Workforce Education Curriculum Frameworks.
    12. Appointments for state instructional materials committees will be made in the following subject areas:
    13. Business Technology Education 6-12
    14. Computer Education K-5
    15. Information Technology Education 6-12
    16. Marketing 6-12
    17. Diversified Education 6-12
    18. Mathematics Education K-5
    19. Mathematics Education 6-8
    20. Mathematics Education 9-12
    21. Technology Education 6-12
    22. Each committee is composed of at least ten members: a minimum of five classroom teachers, two supervisors of teachers, two lay citizens, and one school board member. Classroom teachers must be certified in an area directly related to the academic area being considered for adoption. Lay citizens must
    23. be persons who are not professionally associated with education. All committee appointments are for eighteen months.

In the selection of persons for appointment to the committees, priority is given to recommendations received from school districts, professional associations, and civic organizations expressing an interest in education. Selection of committee members is made in a way to have wide geographical representation on each committee and to include members from large, medium, and small districts. In addition, the membership of each committee must reflect the broad ethnic, racial, socioeconomic, and cultural diversity of the state.
