SUBJECT:
Review of Engineering Programs in the Florida Community
College System (FCCS)

Attached is an electronic copy of the Review of Engineering Programs in the
Florida Community College System. The review was conducted in accordance
with Chapter 240.312 and 240.322 (3) (c), Florida Statutes.

The review, which is comprehensive in scope, includes an analysis of community
college associate in arts, associate in science degrees, and associate in applied
science students who have taken courses in the engineering areas and tracks
subsequent performance at the university level. In addition, the review looks at
state and national demand for engineers and assesses how well state needs are
being met.

Findings indicate that approximately half of community college engineering
enrollments are in computer engineering technology while electronics engineering
technology has the second largest number of enrollments. Engineering program
enrollments grew about 36% between 1996-1997 through 2000-2001. Over 95%
of completers were found placed in employment or continuing their education
during 1999-2000.

The review highlights the effectiveness of our articulation efforts and illustrates
that completions of SUS engineering and related technology programs by former
community college enrollments have increased significantly (35.5%) from 1996-
1997 to 2000-2001.
