Summary:

The Class of 2008 Talented 20 senior letters from Commissioner Dr. Eric J. Smith notifying

students of their potential eligibility for the Talented 20 program were mailed on May 12, 2008 (copy

attached).

 

We appreciate the assistance provided by your school district staff and school counselors in identifying the

class of 2008 students who ranked in the top 20% of their class for the Talented 20 program. High school

counselors play a vital role in helping to ensure that students who potentially qualify for the Talented 20

program in the spring of 2008 meet the eighteen core course requirements for state university admission.

 

In the past, the Department has sent letters notifying students about the Talented 20 program in the fall of their

junior year. Due to fiscal constraints, the Department will no longer send these letters, although we encourage

school counselors to notify potential eligible juniors of the Talented 20 program. Information is available

online at http://www.fldoe.org/Talented20/.

 

We will continue to mail seniors a letter notifying them of their potential eligibility in the spring.
