Summer Reading Leadership Team Professional Learning Opportunity
Just Read, Florida! is inviting your school to participate in a professional learning opportunity
for Reading Leadership Teams. During the summer of 2008, the Florida Literacy and Reading
Excellence (FLaRE) Center and
Reading First
Professional Development (RFPD) at the
University of Central Florida will again be offering two-day regional Reading Leadership Team
(RLT) Institutes. The goal of the Reading Leadership Team Institutes is to offer support to
school teams wishing to engage in professional learning and literacy planning for the 2008-09
school year. We urge you and your school-based team to take advantage of this opportunity to
get a head start on your reading and literacy efforts for the upcoming school year.
Knowing that administrators are essential to the success of RLTs, each registered team must
include a school administrator. As reading coaches are also vital members of RLTs, each
participating school’s reading coach must also attend. Members of the RLT who attend both
days of the institute and who are not under contract at the time of attendance will receive a $200
stipend. Team members working under contract with their school district at the time of the
Institute are not eligible to receive the stipend. Although teams may consist of more than five
members, a maximum of five stipends will be paid per team.

Memorandum to K-12 School Principals

In order to register, school teams should visit the FLaRE website at http://flare.ucf.edu and click
on the Reading Leadership Team registration link. Space is limited and registration will be on a
first come, first serve basis. Team registration will open May 12, 2008 and continue through
May 23, 2008.
Initially, a RLT Contact (we recommend an administrator being this designee) will register ALL
members of the team. Again, a reading coach and a school administrator must be part of each
team. The RLT Contact will receive an acceptance or waiting list notification by May 26, 2008.
Those RLTs that have been accepted will also receive a confirmation code that will allow the
remaining team members to complete an individual registration. This individual registration will
take place from May 26, 2008 through May 30, 2008. The team registration process is not
complete until all members of the team have registered. Final confirmation for all team members
will be sent via e-mail during the week of June 2, 2008.
The attached flyer includes information on specific dates and times of the institutes and an
agenda for the two-days that includes specific beginning and ending times for each day.
We look forward to working with your RLT this summer. If you have questions, please call
Larry Bedenbaugh, Information Services Coordinator, FLaRE, at 407/823-4785.
