SUBJECT:
Dual Enrollment Credit for Approved Statewide Programs
In support of the State Board of Education goal of promoting highest student achievement, the
Department of Education recognizes the merit of statewide programs that promote academic rigor and
award college credit through dual enrollment. Two programs at the University of Florida: the
Student
Science Training Program (SSTP)
and the
Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership and Change (YELC)
offer
students throughout the state an opportunity to participate in a rigorous on-campus summer experience.
Pursuant to section 1007.271(17), Florida Statutes, “
The Commissioner of Education may approve dual
enrollment agreements for limited course offerings that have statewide appeal. Such programs shall be
limited to a single site with multiple county participation.”
These programs offered by the University of
Florida benefit students statewide and are, therefore, approved for student participation via dual
enrollment effective summer term 2008.
School districts are required to grant elective credit toward high school graduation for any student that
successfully completes one of the approved statewide programs. More specifically, for the
Student
Science Training Program
, students who successfully earn 6 credits from the university in IDH 2931 and
IDH 3931 will be awarded 1 full high school elective credit (0.5 credits for each course). Similarly, for
the
Young Entrepreneurs for Leadership and Change
program, students who successfully earn 6 credits
from the university in GEB 4930 and SYG 2010 will be awarded 1 full high school elective credit (0.5
credits for each course).
