PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The PWI Program generates and increases career
opportunities for individuals with disabilities in the competitive labor market by
engaging the talent and leadership of private industry as partners in the
rehabilitation process. Projects identify competitive job and career opportunities
and the skills needed to perform those jobs, create practical settings for job
readiness and training programs, and provide training, job placements, and
career advancement services.

$300,000. Estimated number of
awards is 63.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Employers, nonprofit agencies or organizations, designated state
units, labor unions, community rehabilitation program providers, trade
associations, Indian tribes, tribal organizations, and other agencies or
organizations, including faith-based and community organizations, with the
capacity to create and expand job and career opportunities for individuals with
disabilities. Grant awards will be made only to organizations that provide job and
career opportunities for individuals with disabilities within the state in which the
organization is located or a contiguous state.

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The purpose of the Jacob K. Javits Gifted and
Talented Students Education Program is to carry out a coordinated program of
scientifically based research, demonstration projects, innovative strategies, and
similar activities designed to build and improve the ability of elementary and
secondary schools nationwide to meet the special educational needs of gifted and
talented students.

PROGRAM:
LIVE GREEN Teacher Grant Program
 
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The LIVE GREEN Teacher Grant Program, a Discovery
Education program offered by General Motors, challenges middle school teachers
to create innovative ideas for furthering environmental and energy sustainability.
Teachers will recognize an issue or problem, generate a plan to address it, and
implement the topic into classroom teaching.
 
DEADLINE:
May 15, 2008.
 
 
ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
$1,000.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Open to legal U.S. residents who are 18 years of age and older
and who are employed as middle school teachers for grades five through nine in
accredited public schools in the United States that are organized and primarily
operated for educational purposes, and being considered tax-exempt under
section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Service Tax Code or being registered
as a public school with the National Center for Educational Statistics.

Student Achievement Grants
 
 
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The NEA Foundation offers grants to advance the
academic achievement of students in U.S. public schools and public higher
education institutions in any subject area(s). The designed work should engage
students in critical thinking and problem solving that expand their knowledge of
standards-based subject matter. The work should also advance students’ habits
of inquiry, self-directed learning, and critical reflection.
 
DEADLINE:
June 1, 2008.
 
 
ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
$5,000.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Teachers at public schools, public school education-support
professionals, and faculty and staff members at public colleges and universities.

Save Our History Initiative
 
 
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
Save Our History is a national history education and
preservation initiative that seeks to raise awareness and support for preserving
local heritage. The goal of Save Our History is to inspire the youth in our
communities to become the preservationists of tomorrow.
 
DEADLINE:
June 6, 2008.
 
 
MAXIMUM SIZE OF AWARD:
$10,000.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Elementary, middle, and high school teachers who teach
American, state, or local history in a social studies or history class in a public,
private, or home school located within the 50 states and the District of Columbia.
