The Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Education Standards are the cornerstone of VPK Professional
Development and Accountability. The VPK Standards were adopted in 2005, with the understanding that
the Standards would be reviewed every three years. The current VPK Standards were developed through
a Panel of Experts that included national and state leaders in early childhood education. In December
2007, a Panel of Experts convened to begin the revision process for the 2008 VPK Education
Performance Standards.
To get public input on the current Standards, proposed revisions, and Standards training, the Florida
Department of Education (DOE), Office of Early Learning (OEL) is holding seven Rule Development
Workshops (see attachment).

The Office of Early Learning is hosting several workshops to hear Voluntary Prekindergarten (VPK) Providers’
input on the current VPK Education Performance Standards and proposed revisions to these standards for
2008.
Information will be presented about proposed changes. Participants will have an opportunity to share ideas and
feedback about the format of the book, proposed revisions, and other information specific to the VPK
Education Standards.
