PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The Safe Schools/Healthy Students program (SS/HS)
supports the implementation and enhancement of incorporated, comprehensive,
community-wide policies that create safe and drug-free schools and promote
healthy childhood development.
DEADLINE:
March 14, 2008.
ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
$750,000 for a Local Educational
Agency (LEA) with fewer than 5,000 students; $1,500,000 for an LEA with at
least 5,000 students but fewer than 35,000 students; and $2,250,000 for an LEA
with at least 35,000 students. Estimated number of awards is 55.
ELIGIBILITY:
Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), including charter schools that
are considered LEAs under State law, and consortia of LEAs.

Carol M. White Physical Education Program.

PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
The Carol M. White Physical Education Program (PEP)
provides funds to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) and Community-Based
Organizations (CBOs) to begin, expand, or improve physical education programs,
including after-school programs, for students in kindergarten through 12th grade.
Grant recipients must implement programs that help students make progress
toward meeting State standards.
DEADLINE:
March 24, 2008.
ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
$300,000. Estimated number of
awards is 112.
ELIGIBILITY:
Local Educational Agencies (LEAs), including charter schools that
are considered LEAs under State law, and Community-Based and Faith-Based
Organizations, provided that they meet the applicable statutory and regulatory
requirements.

ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
$500 - $15,000.

Sprint Ahead for Education Grant Program
PROGRAM:
Sprint Ahead for Education Grant Program.
PURPOSE OF PROGRAM:
Sprint Ahead for Education is a grant program that
award funding to public school districts and individual public schools for character
education programs.
DEADLINE:
April 15, 2008.
ESTIMATED AVERAGE SIZE OF AWARDS:
The grant range of awards for
school districts is $10,000 to $25,000. The grant range of awards for individual
schools is $500-$5,000.
ELIGIBILITY:
All U.S. public schools (K-12) and U.S. public school districts.
