IDEAS (NASA)
PROGRAM
: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) seeks applications
for the Initiative to Develop Education through Astronomy and Space Science (IDEAS) grant
program to provide funding for innovative education projects that feature collaboration between
astronomers/space scientists and education professionals.
DEADLINE
: October 25, 2002.
FUNDING
: Up to $20,000 for one-year projects. Up to $50,000 for two-year projects.
ELIGIBILITY
: Collaborations between space scientists and educators who work with K-12
teachers, and teachers in training and/or students. The proposal must indicate a principal
investigator, who will take the lead in administering and guiding the project. This may be either
a professional space scientist who has a Ph.D. and is employed by an appropriate research or
educational institution in the United States, or a professional educator who has at least five years
of experience and is currently employed by a: K-12 institution; a college or university; or an
informal science education institution, including museums, planetariums, and science centers.

Kresge Foundation Bricks and Mortar Grants
PROGRAM
: The Kresge Foundation offers this program to fund capital projects to build
facilities and to challenge private giving. It presents an opportunity to build institutional
capacity by helping an organization broaden and deepen its base of support from the private
sector and by encouraging volunteer involvement in fund raising efforts and beyond.
DEADLINE
: Year round, but only one per institution in any 12-month period.
FUNDING
: Range between $150,000 and $600,000.
ELIGIBILITY
: Tax-exempt, charitable organization that are providers of higher education
(awarding baccalaureate and/or graduate degrees), healthcare and long-term care, human
services, science and the environment, and arts and humanities, as well as governmental
agencies.

Staples Foundation for Learning
PROGRAM
: The Staples Foundation funds programs that support or provide job skills and
educational opportunities for all people, with special emphasis on disadvantaged youths.
DEADLINE
: Grant decisions will be made on a quarterly basis, and all requests must be
submitted at least four weeks prior to the foundation’s meeting. Upcoming meeting dates are
scheduled for October 15, 2002, January 7, 2003, and April 1, 2003.
FUNDING
: Varies.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofits organizations.

Cingular Wireless Corporate Contributions
PROGRAM
: Cingular telephone company supports community-based programs and nonprofit
organizations that focus on educational, cultural, and social issues that affect communities where
Cingular employees work and live.
DEADLINE
: Funding decisions are made quarterly.
FUNDING
: Varies.
ELIGIBILITY
: 501 ( c) (3) or 509 (a) tax-exempt organizations.

Finish Line Youth Foundation
PROGRAM
: Finish Line, sportswear retailer, funds education, sports and exercise programs
that help youths learn the importance of living a healthy lifestyle, bolster their confidence and
leadership skills, and teach the importance of teamwork.
DEADLINE
: Quarterly proposal reviews: March 31, June 30, September 30, and December 31.
FUNDING
: In 2002 grants totaling $374,000 were awarded. Half of all the funds raised by the
foundation goes to the Boys and Girls Clubs, split evenly between the national organization and
local chapters.
ELIGIBILITY
: Nonprofit organizations that focus on athletics and wellness for youth aged 18
and under. Grants should benefit communities from which the donations were generated or in
areas Finish Line serves.
