MEMORANDUM
To:
District
MIS
Directors
From:
Lavan Dukes
Subject:
As a part of the Florida Department of Education’s efforts to support highest student achievement and improve
graduation rates, we are pleased to provide you with information to assist you in accurately reporting students who have
left your district. Attached is the technical assistance paper
Identifying and Reporting Dropouts for Grades PK-12,
School Year 2007-08
.
The Dropout Match files for Survey 2, 2007-2008, referenced in the technical assistance paper, have been run and are
available for district MIS directors to download from the North West Regional Data Center (NWRDC). These reports
locate students who have been reported as dropouts in one district, but have actually transferred to other public schools
in Florida or to community colleges. The following files are available:
•
DPSdd.GQ.F61993.Y07082 – Report of matched dropouts in school districts
•
DPSdd.GQ.F62293.Y07082 – Report of matched dropouts in community colleges
•
DPSdd.GQ.F61943.Y07082 – File of matched dropouts in school districts
•
DPSdd.GQ.F62294.Y07082 – File of matched dropouts in community colleges
•
DPSdd.GQ.F61657.Y07082 – File of non-matched dropouts in school districts
•
DPSdd.GQ.F62295.Y07082 – File of non-matched dropouts in community colleges
•
With this information, a district can correct student records to accurately reflect students who dropped out. We strongly
encourage MIS Directors to work with Dropout Prevention Coordinators and others in the district to analyze these data,
identify affected students, and revise withdrawal codes, where appropriate.

To assist districts who wish to automate, at least partially, the task of looking up new students in the
Student Locator System, a file, DPS.DISTRICT.GQ.F61976.Y07082, is now available that contains all the
records on the Student Locator table. Districts may download this file from NWRDC and use selected
criteria (e.g., last name, gender, date of birth) to search the file programmatically for new students to locate
the students’ prior schools and student identification numbers. The format for this file is attached.
For questions about the Dropout Match files, please contact Dr. Tsung-Yuan Lin at
