Families Building Better Readers and Mysteries in the Middle Training for Educators
Just Read, Florida! is committed to increasing parental involvement as a key to helping students improve
their reading skills. Once again, Volunteer Florida Foundation, Inc. will be managing our signature
programs – Families Building Better Readers (FBBR) and Mysteries in the Middle. With your support,
last year we were able to train parents using simple, research-based activities that would improve their
children’s reading performance.
Volunteer Florida Foundation, Inc. expects to reach as many parents as possible by training and deploying
a network of master and field trainers. We are requesting that each school have their reading/literacy
coach attend one of the five regional train-the-trainer workshops. The following workshops have been

Online registration is available at www.volunteerfloridafoundation.org. The train-the-trainer workshop
schedule is located on the Foundation website as well as the Just Read, Florida! website,
http://www.justreadflorida.com/fbbr/schedule.asp.
People completing the training will receive a certificate designating them as an FBBR Field Trainer.
Section 1008.25, (7)(b), Florida Statutes, passed by the 2004 Legislature, provides that participation in
FBBR is one of the options for supplemental services required of third grade students who scored Level I
on the FCAT and have no good cause exemption from additional practice in reading. FBBR gives parents
a no-cost, convenient option beyond before and after school tutoring or securing a tutor with specialized
reading training.
Volunteer Florida Foundation, Inc. will also take requests from districts to schedule parent workshops via
e-mail directed to FBBRinfo@volunteerflorida.org and working with the master trainers and field
trainers, will fulfill as many requests as their schedules can accommodate.
Supporting participation in FBBR will benefit everyone we serve: students, parents, teachers and
ultimately our secondary, post secondary, and workforce systems. For more information about either of
the FBBR programs, please email FBBRinfo@volunteerflorida.org.
Thank you for all that you do in supporting parents and their children.
