Please make plans to attend the 2007 K-12 Conference and Innovation Fair “Relevant Education
for Real Life Experiences,” October 2-5, 2007, at the Caribe Royale Orlando. Due to the later
start of the school year for many districts,
registration has been extended until September 26.
Visit www.fldoe.org/k12/conference to register. There is a $175 non-refundable registration fee
for all participants until September 26. Late and on-site registration will still be available for a
fee of $225. Hotel reservations can be made by calling the Caribe Royale at (407) 238-8000 or
(800) 823-8300. Rooms may still be available in the “Florida Department of Education 2007 K-
12 Conference” block.
You will not want to miss this conference, which features the following events:

Wear your favorite team colors for the Conference Kick-off “Tailgate” featuring your
favorite sports foods and a cash bar. Remarks will be made by Commissioner Jeanine
Blomberg, Florida Education Foundation Chairman Alan Levy, and the 2008 Florida
Department of Education/Macy’s Teacher of the Year Richard Ellenburg.

Dr. Theodore Hershberg of the University of Pennsylvania will inform the audience
about a comprehensive school reform model that starts with reforming teacher
professional development, mentoring, compensation, and evaluation.

Break-out sessions featuring over 45 presentations by districts, schools, educational
partners, Department staff, and others will be held.

Unveiling of the ePEP planning tool for students.

Recognition of Red Ribbon certified schools.
Friday, October 5

Coach Ken Carter, whose story was made into the recent movie
Coach Carter
starring
Samuel L. Jackson, will share his story of raising expectations for his student athletes by
putting academics first and advocating for overall school improvement. He will be
available for photos afterward.

Over 25 more break-out sessions by districts, schools, educational partners, Department
staff, and others will continue.
