In the Running: Physical Education
The 2007 Florida Legislature passed House Bill 967, which includes changes to Florida’s
Physical Education (PE) policies. To be implemented during the 2007-2008 school
year, the legislation requires 150 minutes of PE per week for grades K-5. The
legislation also requires that the PE Sunshine State Standards be reviewed and revised,
defines instructional personnel approved to teach PE, and requires a professional
development clearinghouse link on the DOE website to include current PE and
nutrition best practices.
“Get Fit Florida” is the professional development site for PE
teachers: http://getfit.fsu.edu/

Technical Assistance Document: Planning and Evaluating Your School
Improvement Process
The Bureau of School Improvement’s Technical Assistance Document (TA) is designed
to assist school leadership teams, School Advisory Council (SAC) members, and other
school stakeholders in planning, implementing, monitoring, and evaluating the school
improvement process. The TA includes resources, references and appendices, and is
aligned to the School Improvement Plan template available online at the Bureau of
School Improvement website at http://www.bsi.fsu.edu. The 2007 DART Model is a
tool that can be used to disaggregate and analyze student achievement data for school
improvement plans and instructional calendars. The 2007 Dart Model is available
online at
