SCHOOL BUS TURNING RADIUS �

In planning parking facilities, driveways, routes, or driver training programs, districts have asked

how much room is required to turn a school bus around. Chart A on the next page provides the

information for various makes and sizes of buses. All the distances are expressed in diameters.

As illustrated in the figure below, "CURB TO CURB" diameter is the minimum distance

between two curbs required to turn a bus in a complete circle without the tires contacting either

curb. "WALL TO WALL" diameter (also illustrated) is the distance between to fixed vertical

objects (such as two road signs) required to turn a bus in a complete circle without the outside

(outermost point) contacting either object.
