SUBJECT: CHANGES IN CERTIFICATION RULES
This memorandum is sent in support of the Department’s Strategic Imperative One that each
Florida classroom is staffed by a highly effective teacher and Imperative Four to improve the
quality of educational leadership. The purpose is to provide information of the recent changes
approved by the State Board of Education in Rules 6A-4.0081, 6A-4.0082, 6A-4.0083, and 6A-
4.0084 for certification in Educational Leadership and School Principal and Rule 6A-4.0243 for
certification in Foreign Language. The rule changes update the certification requirements and
align the school leaders rules to the new principal leadership standards as approved by the
State Board. The foreign language rule is amended to add another option for meeting subject
specialization in a foreign language.
The attached technical assistance paper provides a copy of the revised text of the rules. As
soon as detailed implementation procedures are completed, the information will be provided to
the certification personnel who have completed the certification bureau’s partnership training in
the evaluation process. If you have questions regarding this memorandum or the attached
information, you may contact Beverly Gregory.
