APPLICATIONS FOR SECONDARY SCHOOL PARTICIPATION IN
ACADEMIC YEAR 2007-08 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT BY FCR
STEM IN THE CONTENT ENHANCEMENT PROFESSIONAL
DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE
I am pleased to announce that the Florida Center for Research in Science, Technology,
Engineering, and Mathematics (FCR-STEM) is requesting applications from Florida middle
grades schools and high schools to participate in a professional development program related to
Content Enhancement Routines. Content Enhancement Routines were developed by the Center
for Research on Learning at the University of Kansas (http://www.ku-crl.org/sim/content.shtml).
Routines are available for planning and leading student learning; exploring text, topics, and
details; teaching concepts; and increasing performance on assignments and assessments. These
routines will include instructional methods to teach Florida’s new mathematics and science
standards. Preliminary results in Seminole and Palm Beach Counties confirm that large-scale
implementation of these routines produce substantial gains in student achievement.
For this initiative, FCR-STEM invites middle and high schools in Florida where instructional
leaders and all math and/or science teachers commit to participate in the professional
development and implementation during the 2007-08 school year. Academies and schools-
within-schools are also eligible to apply.
