CONFERENCE AND INNOVATION FAIR
CALL
FOR
PROPOSALS
I am pleased to announce that the 2007 K-12 Conference and Innovation Fair will be held
October 2-5, 2007, in Orlando. This year’s conference is being presented in conjunction with the
Florida Education Foundation and will focus on (1) innovative approaches to improving student
achievement; (2) secondary public school career, collegiate, and magnet academies; and (3)
redesigning teacher compensation. This conference will be an opportunity to highlight the
state’s best model academies and programs to other schools looking to implement such programs
of their own, and discuss how various ways of compensating our teachers lead to the improved
achievement of our students. We invite district staff to attend and encourage schools to bring a
team that includes administrators and teachers.
Governor Crist and Commissioner Blomberg have also been invited to join this exciting
conference opportunity. Keynote speakers will be posted on the Web site as soon as they are
confirmed.
On Wednesday, October 3, an Innovation Fair will commence where 50 of Florida’s schools
with model academies will exhibit their programs. Schools chosen to exhibit at the Innovation
Fair will also present break-out sessions about their program on the same day. The Call for
Proposals for Innovation Fair exhibitors/presenters is enclosed and is due
July 2, 2007
.

Districts wishing to implement similar programs can form mentor/mentee partnerships with
exhibiting schools. Both mentors and mentees receive grant money to start the program at the
mentee school. Last year, $5.3 million was distributed for over 100 partnerships in 49 districts;
however, this may vary for 2007.
Break-out sessions will continue on October 4 and 5 with presentations by districts and others,
who will share their knowledge as it relates to conference topics. This Call for Proposals is also
enclosed and is due
July 16, 2007
.
All events will be held at the Caribe Royale Orlando. Rooms will be held in the “Florida
Department of Education 2007 K-12 Conference” block until September 13, 2007, with rates
beginning at $149. Reservations can be made by calling (407) 238-8000 or (800) 823-8300.
Please visit www.fldoe.org/k12/conference/ for conference information and to register. There is
a $175 non-refundable registration fee for all participants. Regular registration will end
September 11, 2007; however, late and on-site registration will be available for a fee of $225.
Our Department is pleased to host this event for your staff and schools as we strive to ensure that
every student is prepared for college or a career when they graduate from Florida’s public school
system.
