    TO
: Superintendents of Selected School Districts

    FROM
    : Cheri Pierson Yecke, Ph.D.

    DATE
    : April 6, 2007

    SUBJECT
    :
Florida Public School District Continued Funding Opportunity for the
    Tobacco
Prevention and Intervention Teacher Training Project-Final Year

The Florida Department of Education’s goal of
    Highest Student Achievement
is one of the top priorities for
K-12 schools. In order to reach this goal, the Department recognizes that students learn best in a school
environment that is safe and healthy. In order to support this goal, the Coordinated School Health Program
announces a Request for Application to provide continued funding to identified Florida public school
    districts for the
Tobacco Prevention and Intervention Teacher Training Project
    . This grant enables districts
to provide a third year of quality training for teachers to implement effective tobacco prevention and
intervention programs in their classrooms and schools. Districts will have the opportunity to continue
current grant programs, enhance tobacco prevention and intervention efforts, or include new tobacco
prevention or intervention teacher training as dictated by local needs.

The maximum project award is $35,000 per district.
All applications are due by May 22, 2007.
    The attached
Request for Application (RFA) outlines the application process. This is a non-competitive grant; however, an
internal review of each application will be conducted. If you have questions or require assistance in completing
this application, please contact Dr. Antionette Meeks or Penny Detscher at the contact information above.
