SUBJECT:
Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students (PASS) Materials
We are pleased to announce the distribution of two new Parallel Alternative Strategies for
Students (PASS) packages,
Algebra Ia
and
Algebra Ib.
The content-centered packages support
the Department’s goal of highest student achievement by providing instructional activities
designed to supplement state-approved textbooks and other instructional materials and to assist
teachers who are teaching algebra to students of various achievement levels and diverse learning
needs. These PASS packages were developed through the joint efforts of exceptional student
education and content area teachers throughout Florida, under the coordination of the Curriculum
Improvement Project, Leon County Schools.
The content of the new
Algebra Ia
and
Ib
books (course numbers 1200370 and 1200380
respectively) is designed to correlate classroom practices with the
Florida Curriculum
Frameworks
and the Sunshine State Standards. Copies of the
Algebra Ia
and
Ib
packages are
being sent to every Florida high school, and sets are being sent to each Florida Diagnostic and
Learning Resources System (FDLRS) Associate Center. To distribute these materials, principals
should identify algebra teachers in their schools who are working with exceptional students in
regular education settings.
