INCREASING THE QUANTITY AND IMPROVING THE
QUALITY OF EDUCATIONAL OPTIONS
February 21, 2007
TO: District School Superintendents
FROM: Carlo Rodriguez, Ed.D.
SUBJECT: School Choice Parent Advisory Council
In an effort to become more responsive to the issues and concerns of the parents and communities as they
relate to school choice initiatives in Florida, my office is forming a statewide parental choice advisory
council. While Florida continues to lead the nation in school choice options, there is still much work to
be done. We must strive to increase awareness of
all
the school choice options available in Florida.
In order to have a well represented state-wide group, we are seeking assistance from all the school
districts in gathering nominations for parents to serve on this council. We are looking for parents that are
actively involved in the local schools and communities and that would be willing to serve on this
statewide forum and openly discuss issues as they relate to education and school choice.
Our office will be contacting your district school choice and volunteer coordinators to ask for their help in
providing nominations for this council. The council needs parents that are vocal and committed to
increasing educational opportunities for all of Florida’s children and parents that realize the tremendous
difference an informed parent can make in the quality of their child’s educational experiences.
