SUBJECT:
2007 Chancellor’s Best Practice Award
A strategic goal of the Florida Department of Education is to promote quality efficient services at
educational institutions throughout the state of Florida. To recognize your efforts and the quality
services you provide to students and your local communities, the Division of Community
Colleges and Workforce Education has established the Chancellor's Best Practice Award. This
award has been created to recognize annually the top best practices submitted via the Division's
Best Practices website, which was initiated in 2005. The website offers a tremendous
opportunity to showcase exemplary programs at your local institutions and to further promote
these initiatives to a statewide and national audience. The model programs and initiatives at the
website can be accessed by community college administrators and faculty for use in designing
and implementing new programs or improving existing ones. The site is also available to the
general public as a planning resource, thus enhancing our image and outreach with other
professionals.
The 2007 Chancellor's Best Practice Award will focus on three program categories: Academic
Affairs, Student Affairs, and Workforce Education. To submit your program for consideration,
please access the Best Practices website at http://www.fldoe.org/cc/retention/ and follow the

directions that are provided. To begin this process, you will need to click on “Request
Password” (located at the bottom of the web page) and complete the “Best Practices Access
Request Form.”
Once the Division receives this form, you will be contacted for further verification within 24
hours. Upon verification by the Division, you can select a personal password that will allow you
to enter a best practice via the website. The website also provides you with a description, stated
criteria, and additional guidelines and procedures for submitting a best practice. All submissions
received (via the website) by June 30, 2007, will be eligible for the award this year. All best
practice submissions from previous years will also be eligible for this award in its inaugural
year. Chancellor’s Best Practice Award winners will be recognized by the Chancellor at a
special event in the Fall of 2007. Additional details regarding the award presentations and the
location will be announced in the future.
If you have any questions regarding the Division’s Best Practices website or the awards process,
please contact Dr. Brenda C. Spencer, Assistant Director of Articulation and Educational
Services, by telephone at (850) 245-9903 or by e-mail at brenda.spencer@fldoe.org. I look
forward to your participation in this new effort.
