Florida’s Career Resource Network Seminar
The Division of Workforce Development is conducting a Career Resource Network Seminar on
October 3-4, 2002, at the Sheraton Suites Tampa Airport in Tampa. The state framework for counseling
and guidance programs will be highlighted
. Florida’s School Counseling and Guidance Framework
provides many opportunities to show how counseling programs can improve student learning and why
counselors and career specialists should be major players in the
No Child Left Behind
initiative.
Counselors, career specialists, teachers, and administrators are encouraged to attend.
The two-day seminar will focus on ways to improve your school counseling programs along with
the career development component and how to build accountability into the program. Hands-on activities
will be featured that can be used with students as well as labor market information and resources to
assist your students in career and education planning. Participants will leave with specific strategies they
can use to:

Raise students’ achievement levels.

Enhance students’ self-knowledge, self-acceptance and
self-management skills.

Improve students’ decision-making abilities.

Help students set realistic goals and develop strategies for reaching
them.

Presenters include Cal Crow, from the National Training Support Center-Seattle, Washington,
which serves America’s Career Resource Network. Dr. Crow has been a school counselor, a counselor
educator, and a counselor in private practice, as well as a consultant and trainer. He conducts
workshops throughout the country on a variety of topics related to counseling, education, training, and
workforce development. Representatives from the Agency for Workforce Innovation, Department of
Education, and local schools will facilitate workshops on career planning,

etc.
Registration will be $30 and checks should be made payable to Occupational Specialists and
Guidance Association (OSGA). No purchase orders will be accepted.
A small block of rooms has been reserved. The rate is $89 single or double. Call 800-325-3535
and ask for the Department of Education meeting to get this rate. The cut-off date is September 2 for
making hotel reservations.
A Train-the-Trainer pre-session on the
Real Game
will be held on October 2. This workshop will
be open for counselors, career specialists, and teachers. The

(9-10 grade) will be given
free of charge ($220 value) to all participants. The workshop is limited to 15 people. A registration fee of
$25 will include the training and a set of the
Be Real Game
materials. Participants wanting to attend the
