SUBJECT:
Recommendations for Additions to the
Dual Enrollment Course Equivalency List
In response to growing interest and demand for dual enrollment, postsecondary institutions and school
districts are increasing program options to meet individual students’ career interests and academic needs.
The opportunity for motivated, well-prepared students to earn college credit while in high school has
become a widely accepted and utilized method for integrating rigor and advanced study. Studies indicate
that students
who experience success in their dual enrollment courses go on to be successful in subsequent
coursework.
As dual enrollment participation continues to grow, so does the need for the ongoing review of courses
offered to students through this program. Each year, the Articulation Coordinating Committee (ACC)
approves new additions to the
Dual Enrollment Course Equivalency List
, and posts them online at
www.FACTS.org, under “Advising Manuals.” This list is a valuable resource for identifying high school
credit equivalencies for courses taken through dual enrollment. The 2006
Dual Enrollment Course
Equivalency List
now highlights new courses and those courses either offered or accepted as a part of
their general education program by all community colleges and state universities.
This is the time of year for districts to submit suggested additions to the Dual Enrollment Equivalency
list. A submission form is attached to assist in this process. Faculty committees will review suggested
additions and provide recommendations to the ACC for approval. Once approved, the updated
Dual
Enrollment Course Equivalency List
will be posted online and effective for the 2007-2008 academic year.

As a reminder, current law allows for
any
course in the Statewide Course Numbering System, with the
exception of remedial or Physical Education skills courses, to be offered as dual enrollment. Therefore,
any three-credit course not currently on the
Dual Enrollment Equivalency List
can be offered as a dual
enrollment course. These courses shall be awarded a .50 high school credit and will satisfy high school
requirements as an elective or as a core course as designated in the local interinstitutional articulation
agreement. Please submit your suggested additions by the categories for high school subject area diploma
requirements: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Performing/Fine Arts, Practical Arts/Career
Education, and Physical Education.
NOTE:
It is not necessary to submit course suggestions that
currently count as general high school electives.
To accommodate requests by school districts for further additions to the list, please submit your suggested
additions for consideration using the attached form by October 1, 2006, by e-mail to Dr. Pamela Kerouac
at Pamela.Kerouac@fldoe.org or via fax to 850-245-9542. The phone number to address questions or
concerns is 850-245-0427. Suggestions received by the deadline will be eligible for review by the faculty
discipline committees this fall.
Thank you for your participation in this process!
