MEMORANDUM
TO:
District School Superintendents
FROM:
John L. Winn
SUBJECT:
2006 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership
On behalf of the Florida Department of Education, I would like to personally thank those of you who
participated in the 2006 Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership. We honor this
elite group of school administrators who are recognized for their exemplary contributions to
Florida’s students, schools, and communities. Through their innovative leadership and dedication
to academic excellence, Florida’s schools have increased student performance and established
safe learning environments for our children.
This year, 26 districts participated in the Principal Achievement Award for Outstanding Leadership
program.
The task of identifying regional winners in each category from the extraordinary
nominees submitted was very challenging. The nominees were judged on their accomplishments
in increasing student performance levels, establishing community partnerships and parental
involvement, providing assistance for at-risk and special needs students, and developing
innovative strategies that have had a positive impact on the school and learning environment. The
selection committee included principals, assistant principals and teachers from around the state.
The state winners will be announced at the Commissioner’s Summit for Principals, hosted by the
Florida Department of Education and the Florida Association of School Administrators (FASA).
This annual event, which will be held in Tampa, Florida, on September 13-14, is also our venue to
honor all of the outstanding nominees, provide networking opportunities, share common ideas, and
gain insight regarding best practices from national education leaders. We are proud to announce
the regional finalists listed on the following page.
If you submitted an individual who was
selected as a regional finalist, please strongly encourage him or her to attend this event.
Once again, thank you for your continued participation in this important recognition program. If you
have any questions regarding our programs or the upcoming event, please feel free to contact
Bonita Hampton at (850) 245-0544 or via email at Bonita.Hampton@fldoe.org.
