SUBJECT: UPCOMING PROTOCOL REVIEWER TRAINING
As we continue our efforts to implement the Professional Development Protocol,
we are
offering the opportunity for additional qualified individuals interested in serving as
reviewers to be trained to help conduct the on-site district professional development system
reviews.
We are beginning our second three-year cycle of reviews in Fall 2006. Each year
approximately 23 districts are reviewed. Each review lasts approximately 3-5 days. To train
reviewers, we will conduct two-day training sessions in Orlando on August 22-23, 2006, and in
Tallahassee on August 30-31, 2006.
The Department is soliciting experts in professional development to serve as reviewers for the
on-site reviews to be conducted in school districts. Reviewers for the Protocol System will be
drawn from the following sources:
•
Department of Education staff (including affiliate offices such as FDLRS)
•
District professional development staff
•
Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) with approved programs for teacher education
•
Regional consortia such as the Crown Consortium, Heartland Educational Consortium
(HEC), Northeast Florida Educational Consortium (NEFEC), and Panhandle Area
Educational Consortium (PAEC)

session to prepare for the role of reviewer. Reimbursement for travel and per diem expenses for
attending the training and serving as a reviewer will be provided through the Department at

We welcome your participation to improve professional development in our state. The reviewer
application is available online at http://data.fldoe.org/profdev_reviewertraining. Please have
