: The Florida Department of State (FDOS), Division of Cultural Affairs provides
funding for cultural organizations that demonstrate a sustained commitment to cultural
excellence, general or specific projects, as well as not-for-profit science, children and youth
museums.

: October 7, 2002.
FUNDING
: Range: $1,500 to $350,000.
ELIGIBILITY
: Applicant organization must be a public entity governed by a county,
municipality, school district, community college, college, university, or an agency of state
government; or be a not-for-profit, tax-exempt Florida corporation.

College and Career Transitions Initiative Cooperative Agreement (USDOE)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE) offers the College and Career
Transitions Initiative to strengthen the role of community and technical colleges in easing
student transitions between secondary and postsecondary education, and improve academic
performance at both the secondary and postsecondary levels.
DEADLINE
: September 11, 2002.
FUNDING
: Estimated Amount of Award: $2,500,000. Estimated Number of Awards: 1, in the
form of a cooperative agreement.
ELIGIBILITY
: Consortia that include both: (1) a national or international, non-profit, private
membership organization--chiefly comprised of institutions of higher education that offer a two-
year, associate degree or certificate program, and; (2) two or more individual institutions of
higher education that offer a two-year.

Assistive Technology Act -- Technical Assistance Program (USDOE)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE), National Institute on Disability and
Rehabilitation Research through the Assistive Technology Act of 1998 (AT Act) offers the
Technical Assistance Program to award grants to entities to address issues raised by interested
parties; collect data in order to provide information about assistive technology (AT) devices and
services that can be used for determining policy; and provide information on increased access to
AT devices, AT services and other disability-related resources.

Research Fellowships Program (USDOE)
PROGRAM
: The U.S. Department of Education (USDOE), National Institute on Disability and
Rehabilitation Research offers the Fellowships Program to build research capacity by providing
support to highly qualified individuals, including those who are individuals with disabilities, to
conduct research about the rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities. Fellows may conduct
original research in any area authorized by section 204 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, as
amended. Fellows must address problems encountered by individuals in their daily lives that are
due to the presence of a disabling condition, problems associated with the provision of
rehabilitation services to individuals with disabilities, and problems connected with the conduct
of disability research. The program provides two categories of fellowships: Merit Fellowships
and Distinguished Fellowships.
DEADLINE
: October 15, 2002.
FUNDING
: Maximum Award Amount: Merit $45,000; Distinguished, $55,000. Estimated
Number of Awards: 10.
ELIGIBILITY
: Only individuals who have training and experience that indicate a potential for
engaging in scientific research related to the solution of rehabilitation problems of individuals
with disabilities are eligible.

Student Involvement Program (NASA)
PROGRAM
: The National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) will issue a draft
cooperative agreement notice outlining plans to seek applications to collaborate in administering
the NASA K-12 Student Involvement Program.
DEADLINE
: The draft cooperative agreement notice will be posted on the NASA Web site in
November.
FUNDING
: The award could run $750,000 to $1 million a year for multiple years.
ELIGIBILITY
: Eligibility includes nonprofit organizations with national education service
experience.

: The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking proposals under a program
that funds research projects focused on integrating engineering and biology.
DEADLINE
: October 12, 2002.
FUNDING
: $2 million a year for about 35 awards that range from $80,000 to $110,000 a year
each for research and $2,000 to $25,000 a year for student design projects.

: Colleges and universities; nonprofit non-academic organizations, such as
independent museums, observatories, research laboratories, and professional societies; for-profit

Law and Social Science Mid-Career Training Fellowships (NSF)
PROGRAM
: The National Science Foundation (NSF) is seeking applications for fellowships to
support law and social science scholars who pursue advanced methodological or theoretical
training. The goal is to broaden the pool of scholars engaged in innovative research in law and
the social sciences.
DEADLINE
: October 1, annually.
FUNDING
: Average $15,000 per award. Stipend awards cover the cost of enrolling in courses,
institutes, workshops and seminars and related expenses.
ELIGIBILITY
: The researcher must be employed at a U.S. institution and hold a Ph.D. or
equivalent degree in the law and social sciences.
