    The Florida Department of Education is committed to a seamless education system to support
    student learning. It is important for schools to create a school climate that fosters family
    involvement to enable children to reach their full potential. House Bill (HB) 127, that amends
    S. 1002.23 and 1002.42, F.S., was passed by the 2006 Florida Legislature to provide parents
    with specific information and resources.
    The legislation amends subsections (2) and (7) of S. 1002.23, F.S., to require that Department
    of Education guidelines include parent information regarding:

    School entry requirements
    ?
    Required school immunizations
    ?
    The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) recommended immunization
    ?

    Student health resource information, including available parent resources
    ?
    Detailed information about meningococcal disease and vaccination
    In addition, the legislation amends subsection (6) of S. 1002.42, F.S., to require the governing
    authority of each private school to provide parent information regarding:

    Available immunizations and vaccinations, including, but not limited to:

    The CDC recommended immunization schedule

    ?
    Detailed information about meningococcal disease and vaccination

    In accordance with current Florida law, school districts already develop and disseminate a local
    parent guide, consistent with the Florida Department of Education guidelines that describes
    what parents need to know about their child’s educational progress and how they can help their
    child to succeed in school. HB 127 became effective July 1, 2006. To facilitate
    implementation of this legislation in time for the upcoming 2006-07 school year, districts may
    access the following Web sites to obtain downloadable materials to update their parent guide:
