SUBJECT:
TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE PAPER: SERVING STUDENTS WITH
DISABILITIES THROUGH MODIFIED SCHEDULE AND/OR HOME
INSTRUCTION
On rare occasions students with disabilities exhibit disruptive behavior to the extent that the individual
educational plan (IEP) teams consider instruction on a modified schedule; instruction at school outside of
the traditional school day or through home instruction. Exceptional student education (ESE)
administrators are working to ensure that these service delivery models are to be implemented only for
those students with the most difficult behaviors and under close supervision. This is done in an effort to
meet the Department’s goal of providing “Quality Efficient Services” and improve the quality of
educational outcomes.
The purpose of this Technical Assistance Paper (TAP) is to clarify modified schedule and/or home
instruction services to students with disabilities.
If you have any questions regarding this document, you may contact Lee Clark, Program Specialist, by
telephone at (850) 245-0478 or by electronic mail at lee.clark@fldoe.org.
