    2005-06 Title I, Part A, Improving Basic Programs Operated by Local Education
     
    Agencies – Project Extensions
     
    I am pleased to advise you that the Department of Education has decided to extend all of the
    2005-06 Title I, Part A, Basic Projects for an additional two months. The projects were
    originally scheduled to end on June 30, 2006. This action will extend the project period through
    August 31, 2006. This will be the last date for incurring expenditures and obligating project
    funds. The new date for liquidating obligations and submitting final expenditure reports will be
    October 20, 2006. The Department will issue amended Project Award Notifications (DOE 200s)
    confirming these extensions. Your district or agency does not need to submit a formal request to
    extend the Title I, Basic Project.
     
    Please note the following:

    This action is being taken for 2005-06 Title I, Basic Projects only and does not commit
    the Department to taking similar action in subsequent periods or other federal or state
    programs.

    It is essential that each agency submit the required Final Expenditure Report (DOE 399)
    as soon as possible after August 31, 2006, but no later than October 20, 2006, so that the
    roll-forward certifications of unexpended funds from 2005-06 to 2006-07 can take place
    expeditiously. It is the Department’s intention to take all necessary actions to secure the
    Final Expenditure Reports in a timely manner to ensure that all local education agencies
    have maximum access to the funds to meet student needs.
