The Technical Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance Requirements for Minors to
Maintain Their Driving Privilege directs school districts to transmit student data to DHSMV at
least once a week. Implementation of these requirements can improve district dropout and
attendance rates. Data revealed that approximately 4 percent of students who had their driver
licenses suspended for excessive absences received a second suspension. Therefore, 96 percent
of students who received a first suspension were never issued a second suspension for non-
compliance with school attendance requirements.
If you have questions regarding your data, please contact Donald Klein, DHSMV, at (850) 617-
3811. If you have questions concerning policies and procedures relating to the implementation of
the driver license/school attendance program requirements, please refer to the Technical
Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance Requirements for Minors to Maintain Their
Driving Privilege, located at www.firn.edu/doe/bin00014/tap-home.htm, or contact Rich
Downs via e-mail at rdowns@tempest.coedu.usf.edu or by telephone at (850) 922-3732, or
