Update of Office of Program Policy and Government Accountability
(OPPAGA) Best Practices for Safety and Security

Section 229.8348(1), Florida Statutes, requires that the Safety and Security Best
Practices and Indicators from the Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government
Accountability (OPPAGA) be updated annually; therefore, the updated best practices
should be finalized by October 1, 2002. Since your district has recently completed the
safety and security self-assessment using these best practices, we would like your input
as we update the best practices for School Year 2002-2003.

Please review the attached document, which is the October 2001, version of the Best
Practices and Indicators, and submit any comments via e-mail to Julie Collins, at
Julie.Collins@fldoe.org, by
September 6, 2002.
Comments may include ideas for new
best practices, revisions to current practices, or the deletion of practices that do not rise
to the level of “best.” The Office of Safe Schools will compile your comments and
submit them to OPPAGA and to the Partnership for School Safety, prior to the
partnership’s meeting on September 12-13, 2002, in Ocala, Florida.
