SUBJECT:
Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students (PASS) materials
We are pleased to announce the distribution of a new Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students
(PASS) package,
American History Part 2.
The content-centered package supports the Florida
Department of Education’s goal of highest student achievement by providing instructional activities
designed to supplement state-approved textbooks and other instructional materials and to assist
teachers who are teaching American history to students of various achievement levels and diverse
learning needs. This PASS package was developed through the joint efforts of exceptional student
education and content area teachers throughout Florida, under the coordination of the Curriculum
Improvement Project, Leon County School District.
The content of the new
American History
book (course number 2100310) is designed to correlate
classroom practices with the
Florida Curriculum Frameworks
and the Sunshine State Standards.
Copies of the American History package are being sent to every Florida high school, and sets are
being sent to each Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System Associate Center. To
distribute these materials, principals should identify American history teachers in their schools who
are working with exceptional students in regular education settings. Please note that there is a pull-
out evaluation form in the front of the teacher’s guide. We ask your help in having the selected
teachers fill out the form and return it to us. Persons returning evaluation forms by July 31, 2006,
will be eligible to receive additional complimentary copies.
