ST
CENTURY COMMUNITY LEARNING CENTERS REQUEST FOR
PROPOSAL
 
 
I am pleased to announce the release of the 2006-2007 Request for Proposal for competitive projects for
the 21st Century Community Learning Centers program (21st CCLC), re-authorized under Title IV, Part
B, of the No Child Left Behind Act. This program is designed to provide expanded academic enrichment
opportunities for children attending low performing schools. Tutorial services and academic enrichment
activities are designed to help students meet local and state academic standards in subjects such as reading
and math. In addition, 21st CCLC programs provide youth development activities, drug and violence
prevention programs, technology education programs, art, music and recreation programs, counseling and
character education to enhance the academic component of the program.
 
The
s
tate of Florida currently funds 78 21st CCLC projects in approximately 321 sites across the state.

The proposal application and all accompanying forms can be found at
www.firn.edu/doe/curriculum/21century.htm . The original and four copies of the application must be
received by the Florida Department of Education no later than May 12, 2006.
 
The funds will be awarded through a competitive grant process based on the implementation of research-
based academic improvement practices, through collaborative efforts, and meeting the grant criteria.
