District Professional Development Contacts

Kathryn S. Hebda, Chief
Bureau of Educator Recruitment, Development and Retention
As we continue our efforts to implement the Professional Development Protocol,
we are
offering the opportunity for additional qualified individuals interested in serving as
reviewers to be trained to help conduct the on-site district professional development system
reviews.
Each year approximately 25 districts are reviewed. In 2005-06 we are visiting 26
districts and 4 lab schools. Each review lasts approximately 1-4 days. To train reviewers, we will
conduct a two-day training session in Orlando, Florida, on February 7-8, 2006.
The Department is soliciting experts in professional development to serve as reviewers for the
onsite reviews to be conducted in school districts. Reviewers for the new Protocol System will be
drawn from two sources: Department staff (including affiliate offices such as FDLRS), and
district professional development staff both active and retired. Additional reviewers will be
drawn from Institutions of Higher Education (IHE) with approved programs for teacher
education and from regional consortia such as the Panhandle Area Educational Consortium
(PAEC), Crown Consortium, Heartland Educational Consortium (HEC), and Northeast Florida
Educational Consortium (NEFEC).

development programs at a district or regional level
Reviewers must make a commitment to conduct at least two reviews a year for a total
commitment of 6-10 days over the course of the year and to participating in a two-day training
session to prepare for the role of reviewer. Reimbursement for travel and per diem expenses for
attending the training and serving as a reviewer will be provided through the Department at
approved rates.
We welcome your participation to improve professional development in our state. The reviewer
application is available online at http://data.fldoe.org/profdev_reviewertraining. Please have
reviewer applicants complete and submit the online form

Selected reviewer applicants will be notified by email of their acceptance shortly after the

Please disseminate this notice to others whom you believe meet the reviewer’s criteria and
would provide valuable contributions to improving the quality of professional development
programs in Florida. For further information contact Henry Pollock, Program Director, Educator
Retention, by email at henry.pollock@fldoe.org. We look forward to our continued work
