Approving Field Trips for Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) Sponsors
This document supports the mission of Florida’s K-20 education system to increase the proficiency of
all students within one seamless, efficient system. Through this and other modes of assistance, Food
and Nutrition Management (FNM) supports the State Board of Education’s goal to deliver quality,
efficient services (Section 1008.31(3), Florida Statutes).
The purpose of this technical assistance note is to clarify FNM’s role in approval of field trips for
sponsors of the SFSP. The Department requires that the SFSP program supervisor or the SFSP area
representative formally approve a sponsor’s planned field trips. If the sponsor is planning a field trip
that affects the time or location of meal service, the sponsor and e-mail the Department’s
SFSP
staff and the meal service vendor at least 48 hours in advance.

served will be considered “consumed off-site” and will not be reimbursed.

FNM developed the attached Form SFSP-A16 to assist program sponsors in providing field trip
notification information to the SFSP office. The form can be downloaded from the Child Nutrition
Program web site at http://www.firn.edu/doe/fnm, select SFSP in dialog box, click on summer
application, log-in and enter your user name and password. If a sponsor opts not to use Form SFSP-
A16, an alternate form must be approved by the SFSP office prior to use. The field trip notification
form must be completed and sent electronically to the SFSP office at least 48 hours in advance. This
will enable program staff to quickly and efficiently forward field trip information to field staff and
other agencies as required.
