Reporting to Parents of Students Attending Title I Schools (
Parents Right-to-Know
)
The No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) requires specific notification, under certain conditions, in a timely
manner, to parents of students in schools receiving Title I, Part A funds. The communication shall be in an
understandable and uniform format, and be provided in a language the parent understands, to the extent
practicable. The citation for this requirement: The “Parent’s Right to Know” provisions is under section
1111(h)(6)(A & B)) of the NCLB. The requirements are that at the start of each school year, a district that
receives Title I, Part A, funds must notify parents of each student attending a Title I school that they may
request and the district will provide, in a timely manner, information regarding the professional qualifications
of their children’s classroom teachers and, if applicable, the services provided by their paraprofessionals, as
well as the paraprofessionals’ qualifications. Also, the district is required to notify parents that their child
has been taught for four or more consecutive weeks by a not-highly qualified teacher.
