The Technical Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance Requirements for Minors to
Maintain Their Driving Privilege directs school districts to transmit student data to DHSMV at
least once a week. Implementation of these requirements can improve district dropout and
attendance rates. Data revealed that only 4.5% of students who had their driver license suspended
for excessive absences received a second suspension. Therefore, 95.5% of students who received
a first suspension were never issued a second suspension for non-compliance with school
attendance requirements.
If you have questions regarding your data, please contact Donald Klein, DHSMV, at (850) 488-
3288. If you have questions concerning policies and procedures relating to the implementation of
the driver license/school attendance program requirements, please refer to the Technical
Assistance Paper on Implementation of Attendance Requirements for Minors to Maintain Their
Driving Privilege or contact Rich Downs via email at rdowns@tempest.coedu.usf.edu or by
telephone at (850) 922-3732, or SunCom 292-3732.
