Educators throughout Florida are working to ensure that students obtain high levels of achievement
and successfully transition to adult life. The Florida Department of Education is committed to
providing information to assist staff and families to meet the needs of students with disabilities
throughout the transition process. We are pleased to present the new document,
Atre
vete a Sonar
para Adultos
, the Spanish version of
Dare to Dream for Adults
disseminated previously.
Atrevete a Sonar para Adultos
is a strengths-based book designed to encourage young adults and
adults with disabilities to make choices and find options that are aligned with their preferences,
abilities, and needs.
The book is written by Dr. Kristine Wiest-Webb, University of North
Florida.
Mr. Joshua Peller is the author of the article called
Josh’s Journey
that appears
throughout the book. Mr. Michael Phillips created the artwork (cover and section dividers) for
the book.
The book is designed to be used either independently by an individual with a disability or with
the support of a facilitator (teacher, service provider, family member, friend). The purpose of

Atrevete a Sonar para Adultos
is to offer adults with disabilities opportunities for self-
generated choices. As Mr. Peller states, “This book will help you to achieve your dreams and
handle everyday problems.”
The book will be available on-line at http://myfloridaeducation.com/commhome/pub-home.htm.
We encourage education and agency staff to download it and make as many copies as needed for
their students or clients. In addition, this on-line version may be used to download individual
pages (e.g., worksheets) to meet individual needs.
