SUBJECT:
Request for Information Regarding Potential Unmatched Private
Contributions for State Matching Programs
Section 1011.85(4), Florida Statutes, provides that “Each year, eligible
contributions by a community college’s foundation or the State Board of
Education by February 1 shall be eligible for state matching funds.” We are in the
early stages of preparing our Legislative Budget Request for the 2003-2004 fiscal
year. Consistent with our prior request, we are planning to request funding to
match private contributions for the Dr. Philip Benjamin Matching Grant Program.
Specifically, we are asking you to
estimate
the amount of unmatched private
contributions that you expect to have receipted by February 1, 2003. Please
indicate which area you are submitting donations for matching with state funds.
The two areas are: (1) scholarships with a match of $1 of state funds to $1 of local
private funds, and (2) other eligible uses by the college with a match of $4 of state
funds to $6 of local private funds.
To maintain our credibility in the budget request process, it is vitally important
that your estimate be as accurate as possible. Please submit this information to the
attention of Maybelle Montford no later than
August 22, 2002
.
Please be advised that this request for information is done to enable the
Governor’s Office to make budgeting recommendations; thus, the earlier date in
August was selected. We will also request from you a final certification of the
private contributions receipted as of February 1, 2003, in order for the Legislature
to have the most current information prior to session. The
final
certification will
be due to us February 11, 2003.
