District Add-on Programs for Athletic Coaching Certification
The districts’ add-on programs for certification are integral to the Department’s goal of increasing the supply
of highly effective teachers. The State Board of Education recently revised the requirements for Athletic
Coaching certification making it necessary for districts to revise their add-on programs accordingly. As
mentioned in the October 10, 2005, memo from the Bureau of Educator Certification, the requirements now
include the study of the effects and dangers of drug use including performance enhancing drugs and a valid
cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certificate issued by the American Heart Association or the American
Red Cross. School districts with add-on programs in Athletic Coaching will need to revise their programs to
include these new requirements. A list of the district add-on programs and their validity dates can be found at
the following site: http://www.firn.edu/doe/pro
