Promoting Environmental Education
 
PROGRAM:
The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) invites proposals
for education projects promoting environmental stewardship. Their goal is
to support environmental education projects that develop knowledgeable
and responsible students, teachers, and citizens. This grant program
provides financial support for projects which design, demonstrate, or
disseminate environmental education practices, methods, or techniques.
 
DEADLINE:
November 23, 2005.
 
FUNDING:
$3 million for an estimated 150 grants generally ranging from
$10,000 to $15,000.

State and local education and environmental agencies;
colleges and universities; nonprofit 501(c)3 organizations; noncommercial
educational broadcasters; and tribal education agencies.

Mathematical Sciences Priority Area (MSPA) / National
Science Foundation (NSF)
Bringing Math and Science Together
 
PROGRAM:
The National Science Foundation seeks proposals for research.
The MSPA’s interlinked priority area’s are: (1) fundamental mathematical
and statistical sciences, (2) interdisciplinary research involving the
mathematical and statistical sciences with science and engineering, and (3)
critical investments in mathematical and statistical sciences that embed
training in research activities.
 
The fundamental mathematical sciences are essential for the progress of
research across disciplines. They are also critical to training a
mathematically literate workforce for the future.
 
DEADLINE:
Deadlines vary for each priority area, please see website for
specific details.
 
FUNDING:
$15.4 million for 55 to 70 awards.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
U.S. Colleges and universities, nonprofit 501(c)3
organizations, and for profit government organizations.

“We the People” Bookshelf / National Endowment for the
Humanities (NEH) / American Library Association (ALA)
Encouraging Youths to Read
 
PROGRAM:
The National Endowment for the Humanities, in partnership with
the American Library Association, will award children’s book collections to

schools and libraries in order to encourage youths to read classic books and
explore themes in American History, culture, and ideas. This year’s
collection includes

DEADLINE:
January 17, 2006.
 
FUNDING:
NEH will award 1,000 collections each containing 15 thematically
related books appropriate for a range of ages from early elementary, upper
elementary, and middle to high school students.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
U.S. public libraries and K-12 school libraries, including those
at public, private, parochial or charter schools. Multiple libraries within a
system may apply, but a separate application must be submitted for each
individual library.

Inspiration Software’s Inspired Teacher and Rookie Award
Incorporating Visual Learning into Education
 
PROGRAM:
Inspiration Software is offering scholarships for educators who
use visual learning in their teaching. They are committed to helping
educators use graphic organizers and other visual learning tools to help
students develop strong thinking and organizational skills and improve their
academic performance. Inspiration Software is offering two types of
scholarships:
 
 
‘Inspired Teacher Scholarship for Visual Learning’ projects are for
teachers who currently have an understanding of visual learning.
 
‘Inspired Teacher Scholarship Rookie Awards for Visual Learning’ are
for teachers who are new to visual learning.
 
DEADLINE:
January 30, 2006.
 
FUNDING:
25 awards of $750 in scholarships for workshops or courses.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
Educators who have been teaching for at least one year in a
K-12 school or institution of higher education.

SchoolSpan Web Empowerment Grants
Improving Online Communication
 
PROGRAM:
SchoolSpan is looking for schools that are interested in
improving their online communication with the community. SchoolSpan’s
annual Web Empowerment Grant opportunity will provide the tools for many
schools to upgrade their websites, making them more efficient and useful for
the school and the community. The purpose of the grant is to improve the
ease of communication between students and school staff; provide a central
site of communication between schools and the central office; increase the
usefulness and frequency of information shared with parents and the
community at large; and increase parent involvement and satisfaction by
providing updated information.
 
DEADLINE:
December 15, 2005.
 
FUNDING:
Up to $1 million in technology software.
 
ELIGIBILITY:
School districts, independent schools, and private and
parochial schools.
