SUBJECT: School Board Organization
Section 1001.371, F.S., requires that the school board organization meeting be held the
third Tuesday after the first Monday in November of each year, which is November 22,
2005. Additional sections of law specify requirements for bonding school board members
(Section 1010.07, F.S.) and the use of facsimile signatures (Section 116.34, F.S.). Each
section of law requires certain information to be filed with the Department of Education
and the Department of State. This memo provides information to assist you in meeting the
filing requirements.
Section 1001.371, F.S., requires that the Chairman and Secretary make and sign a copy of
the proceedings of organization, including the schedule for
names and addresses of all school district officers. A certified copy of the original should
be filed with the Department of Education within two weeks following the meeting. In
accordance with the statute, the due date this year is December 6, 2005.
