Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students (PASS) materials: Language Arts 1
We are pleased to announce the distribution of a new Parallel Alternative Strategies for Students
(PASS) package,
Language Arts.
The content-centered package supports the Department’s goal
of highest student achievement by providing instructional activities designed to supplement
state-approved textbooks and other instructional materials and to assist teachers who are teaching
Language Arts to middle school students of various achievement levels and diverse learning
needs. This PASS package was developed through the joint efforts of exceptional student
education and content area teachers throughout Fl
Improvement Project, Leon County Schools.
The content of the new
Language Arts 1
(course number 1001010) is designed to correlate
classroom practices with the
Florida Curriculum Frameworks
and the Sunshine State Standards.
Copies of the language arts package are being sent to every Florida middle school, and sets are
being sent to each Florida Diagnostic and Learning Resources System Associate Center. To
distribute these materials, principals should identify language arts teachers in their schools who
are working with exceptional students in regular education settings. Please note that there is a

pull-out evaluation form in the front of the teacher’s guide. We ask your help in having the
selected teacher fill out the form and return it to us. Persons returning evaluation forms by
June 30, 2006, will be eligible to receive additional complimentary copies.
